A Brief History of Dogs Gone Fishing

In early 2000 a number of home recorded "finished demos" by Doug Kolmar appeared on MP3.com under the name Dogs Gone Fishing. A band name was chosen for two reasons:

  • because the demos used a pretty consistent instrumentation of 2 guitars, drums, bass, vocals, and keyboards either performed or sequenced by Kolmar with the idea that there could be a live band one day.
  • Kolmar had other music in the classical/experimental vein under his own name already on MP3.com.
A ten-song CD of this material was produced, called The Whole Story is Long and Complicated.

Once the CD was done, the next appropriate step appeared to be to play the songs live to promote interest in the CD and to see how they would grow and change as they were performed. As a first step toward creating a performing band Kolmar and Ken Krumenacker, who had played together in a bunch of informal pick-up groups, formed Dogs Gone Fishing "Unplugged." This acoustic duo performs material from the CD as well as other material by both members. The duo has performed at The Spot in Stony Brook, The Zen Den Café in Babylon, and participated in Songwriters in the Round with Sonny Meadows at Barnes & Noble in Commack.
